iOS app using Bluetooth beacons to help individuals with intellectual disabilities become more independent.
People living with intellectual disabilities experience difficulty remembering to complete everyday tasks such as washing hands, turning off lights, or bringing keys with them. A verbal cue is enough to serve as a reminder for these activities, but reminders like this require a caregiver to actively monitor them. While helpful, such surveillance can be invasive and does little to promote independence - a trait sought after by emerging adults with intellectual disabilities.
CareGiver iOS solves this with a task-based notification system that is triggered by Bluetooth beacons placed in strategic locations. The CareGivee, a user with an intellectual disability, receives a notification as well as instructions to complete the task when they come into contact with the Bluetooth beacon. CareGiver iOS lightens the workload of the caregiver by removing the need for constant monitoring. With the use of CareGiver iOS, the user is able to gain more independence.
